The Rape of the Lock riassunto
Pope was asked to write a poem to help stop a feud between two families, the Petres, the family of a certain Lord Petre and the Fermor, the family of Miss Arabell. The poem that Pope wrote was entitled The Rape of the Lock which means the theft of some hairs, in fact the lordhad cut off a lock of the young lady's hair without her permission.
In the poem the two main characters are referred to as Belinda and Biron. Despite warnings from the young girl's protecting spirit, Ariel, the Baron succeeds in cutting off a lock of hair using a pair of scissors . Belinda reacts violently to this affront, first she screams then she throws some tobacco in the Baron's nose and finally she pulls out a knife and demands the return of her lock.
unfortunately, in this ensuing scuffle, the lock is lost.
